The END TIMES Draw Near :
The Year MMXII Ano Domini is prophesied as The Beginning of the End... .
I was asked by PILOT MAGAZINE to create a piece which speaks to this belief...

ayans believed in a Serpentine Deity, as did Buddhists, Hindus and countless other smaller, polytheistic tribes. I'm not hear to debate the foundation for their belief, rather I wish to comment on the commonality of the Serpentine Symbology. Below is a Calligraphic interpretation of transliterated Mayan Texts which speak about The End of Days. The sinuous form of the snake itself is evocative of many things - here in this piece I hope it evokes the unfolding narrative that is our progression through time.
Whether or not 2012 will be the end of us or not... Holler at me then and we'll see if I'm still Kickin'...

Is the broad brushstroke around the snake done on the same piece of paper or a separate layer? if it was me i would have been pained to add that. Although it looks great the possibility of it not looking great after all that work would be pretty daunting to any artist.

Thanks CHAD ! Yeah, it sure wasn't easy to take a brush to a piece which had taken days to craft but then again the uncertainty of what the outcome will be is part of the beauty/process... or at least I think so :) Thanks so much for checking it out and for your comment !
